Groundwork Music Project is proud to announce the 3rd Annual We Write It We Sing It Concert. This event will feature songs written and performed by elementary students at Blackshear, Maplewood and Palm Elementary Schools, and Trinity Preschool. Songs will be accompanied by the Groundwork Music Orchestra.

The concert will also feature students from the SWAN program at Blackshear Elementary. The SWAN program brings UT music students into the elementary classroom to provide vocal and instrument lessons.

Neal Kassanoff, the founder of Groundwork Music Project, along with other professional musicians, have been working with elementary students and musician/teachers throughout the current school year to help students learn the fundamentals of songwriting, create their own songs, as well as sing and play music from the Groundwork Music Orchestra catalog. Students will sing and play ukulele. Along with the songs written by the children, Groundwork Music Orchestra will perform its own original material, including songs co-written by Kassanoff and Ben Kweller, and other favorites from the Groundwork Music canon.

This event gives young students a chance to experience the joy of both music and performance. Audience members are encouraged to sing along, bringing a participatory spirit to the event. Groundwork Music Project enhances the lives of children by providing free and low cost music classes to schools with limited means. These programs provide the musical activities that are essential to healthy development across a broad spectrum: emotional, cognitive, social and more. The mission of the Groundwork Music Project is simple: to provide high quality music education programs to young children who could not otherwise afford it. This free event is sponsored in large part by City of Austin's Cultural Arts Funding. Groundwork Music Project welcomes donations as the organization heads into its spring pledge drive. The concert will take place on Wednesday, April 29th, 2014, 5pm to 7pm at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center (1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX 78702). Please visit groundworkmusic.org for more information.
