According to Deasline.com, Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries will join previously announced Sir Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett in "The Hobbit." Lord of the Rings director and Oscar winner Peter Jackson, who will direct the two-part film, wrote in a casting update:"Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character-the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means 'daughter of Mirkwood' and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing!." He added, "I'm also highly excited that Barry Humphries will be portraying the Goblin King, in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum."

Jackson commented on the project, "Exploring Tolkien's Middle-earth goes way beyond a normal film-making experience" Jackson said in a statement, "It's an all-immersive journey into a very special place of imagination, beauty and drama. We're looking forward to re-entering this wondrous world with Gandalf and Bilbo -- and our friends at New Line Cinema, Warner Brothers and MGM."

Humphries is best known for his on-stage and television alter egos Dame Edna Everage, a Melbourne housewife and "gigastar", and Sir Les Patterson, Australia's foul-mouthed cultural attaché to the Court of St. James's. Lilly is best known for her role as Kate Austen in the ABC drama, Lost.
