Dance Currents, Inc. is presenting the third in their series of Sunday afternoon concerts of Dance and Music at Green Street Studios, 185 Green Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 12 at 2pm.

The program will include two new dances, "Tok" by Ali Smith, and "Braiding" by Kathy Hassinger. "Battle Etude" (2004), by Robert Battle and "Pulse"(2004) by Kathy Hassinger will also be performed. Saint Saëns "Fantaisie", Ravel's "Habanera", and Corelli's "Follia" will be played live. A collection of well trained artists in classical and modern forms of dance and music will perform: Dance Currents dancers Jennifer Burpee, Whitney Cover, Sarah Josselyn, Lauren Previte, Kai Sherman and Ali Smith as well as Yohanan Chendler, violin, Victoria Tzotzkova, piano, Yuji Kano, flute and Mason Morton, harp.

Both Alison Smith and Whitney Cover graduated from the Laban Institute in London, Ms. Smith in choreography and Ms. Cover in performance. Lauren Previte is a graduate of Boston Conservatory's Dance Department, and Jennifer Burpee a graduate of Walnut Hill. These dancers teach and perform widely in the greater Boston area. The musicians performing in the concert have graduate degrees in music, and have performed internationally. Ms. Tsotzkova, piano, has played in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall on several occasions, and has won first prize and grand prizes respectively at Chautauqua Festival Piano Competition, and New York's MTNA Yamaha competition. Mr. Chendler, violin, has compositions which have been performed in Israel, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany Japan and the US. Many composers have written works specifically for Yohanan. Currently, he is recording chamber and solo music for Martin Boykan. Mr. Kano recently performed to full houses in Tokyo, Japan and has received a first prize in the Denise Jennings Memorialf Solo and Ensemble flute competition of the Houston Flute Club. He was one of five finalists in the Byron Jester Memorial Competition. Mr. Kano teaches widely in the Boston area and spends his summers at Marlboro Music Festival. Mr. Morton completed his Masters in Harp performance in 2012 from BU under the tutelage of Ann Hobson Pilot, former principal harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He teaches harp at the Timilty Middle School in Boston.

Kathy Hassinger, Artistic Director of Dance Currents, Inc., teaches Perspectives in World Dance at Emerson College. She produces historical modern dances by famous choreographers, her own choreography and pieces by emerging choreographers. The first performance in this season's series of Sunday afternoon concerts was Angels Afoot, presented at Green Street Studios on December 9th, 2012. The second in the series was Chaos or Connection: Living the Legacy of Modern Dance", March 17th again at Green Street at 3pm. This event included a movie in the making, some historical repertory and a panel discussion on past, current and future directions in Modern Dance. Theodore Bale, in a review of Ms. Hassinger's work mentioned, "Hassinger's dances have a sweeping quality and an intelligent musicality."
