Columbia Children's Theatre to Celebrate 10th Anniversary, 5/17

Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT) is going to party like it's 2005! It's free and the public is invited to help celebrate a decade of the finest live theatre for families in the Midlands at Heathwood Park, 800 Abelia Rd., Sunday, May 17 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The party is sponsored by the Goings Law Firm.

So Many Reasons to Celebrate!

47 Mainstage shows for families, 17 YouTheatre productions using over one thousand children, more than 90 summer camps, after school and homeschool classes, and a big ole truck load of fun: That's what ten years of Columbia Children's Theatre has brought to the Midlands. Almost 10 years ago to the day, CCT mounted its first production, a musical adaptation of the story of Rapunzel by the creators of the hit television series Friends, and they haven't looked back.

"When we were looking at what to do to celebrate our 10 year anniversary," says CCT co-founder and Artistic Director Jerry Stevenson, "we thought about a gala with a silent auction or some sort of commemorative dinner, but then went 'wait, this is not who we are!' And that's when the idea to just have a big, free party with fun kid stuff in a park came about."

Of course there will be cake provided by Whole Foods, face painting by Lunatrix Arts, and balloon sculptures by Princes B. Twist. Also, many favorite CCT characters from the past 10 years will be there including Captain Braidbeard from How I Became A Pirate, The Evil Queen from Snow White, Junie B. Jones and almost the entire cast of Skippyjon Jones including Skippy himself! Factor in a free concert by everyone's favorite family indie rock band Lunch Money and you've got more fun than a barrel of monkeys in a fun house.

Columbia Children's Theatre's 10th Birthday Bash will be held at Heathwood Park at 800 Abelia Rd. on Sunday, May 17 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The Lunch Money concert will begin at 2:00.

Columbia Children's Theatre is a professional resident not-for-profit theatre dedicated to providing quality live theatre experiences for families and young audiences, and is supported in part by the City of Forest Acres, The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
