This year's red carpet season got off to a shaky start as a strike derailed the glamour in Los Angeles and New York.  South Florida shows the nation how to get it right as the 32nd Annual Carbonell Award nominations were released today along with details of the awards ceremony, which is one of the most anticipated events of the theatrical season.  The Carbonell Awards, sponsored by The Law Firm of Broad & Cassel, P.A., will take place Monday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Of the more than 100 shows that opened in 2007, 30 productions at 13 different companies were nominated for South Florida's oldest and most prestigious arts honors, citing the best shows and performances in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The awards, which are named after sculptor Manuel Carbonell who designed and donated the statuettes, will be presented at a star-studded benefit performance featuring all the area's biggest names that raises scholarships for South Florida arts students.

This year's edition will feature the Peter Graves Orchestra and be hosted by two-time Tony nominee, cabaret and recording artist Christine Andreas who has starred on Broadway in My Fair Lady, Oklahoma!, On Your Toes, Words and Music, Angel Street and Rags. The ceremony is presented with additional support by the Broward Performing Arts Center Foundation, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Southern Playbill Publications.

Tickets are $50 and $75.  A $45 ticket is available to groups of 10 or more who purchase in advance of the March 15 deadline. Tickets are available through the Broward Center's box office by calling 954-462-0222 or visiting www.browardcenter.org.  The Broward Center is located at 201 S.W. 5th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
