Brevard Music Center (BMC) is thrilled to announce a series of special events on its campus designed to celebrate the Total Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017. From special concerts to film screenings to an unprecedented opportunity to stay on the Brevard Music Center campus, Eclipse Weekend @ BMC will delight guests for the entire weekend leading up to Monday's once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse event.

Full Eclipse Weekend details and ticket information for all BMC events and accommodations can be found at brevardmusic.org/eclipse or by calling the BMC Box Office at 828-862-2105. At 2:37 p.m. on Monday, August 21, the total solar eclipse will occur over Brevard, NC with much of surrounding Transylvania County within the path of totality. It will be the first total solar eclipse seen in the continental U.S. in 38 years and the first to sweep across the entire country in 99 years.

"It's extraordinary that Transylvania County sits in the direct viewing path for this once-in-a-lifetime event," said BMC President & CEO Mark Weinstein. "We are pleased to offer a series of specially designed events and family-friendly accommodations for anyone coming to the area for this occasion. We warmly invite local residents and visitors alike to join us as we celebrate the Total Eclipse during this memorable weekend." Kicking off this exciting weekend at BMC, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band will make their Brevard Music Center debut on Friday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium-BMC's lakeside open-air auditorium. Tickets for the August 18 concert range in price from $25 (lawn seating) to $125 (premium seating). This special BMC Presents post-season performance, also produced in collaboration with Mountain Song Productions, is one of a series of signature North Carolina-based events celebrating Transylvania County's presence in the "path of totality" during the solar eclipse.

On Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, Music Center visitors will enjoy movie showings, including Ron Howard's Apollo 13 and Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium (WPA). BMC concessions-including popcorn-will be available at WPA for both movies, which start at 8:30 PM. General admission tickets range in price from $16 (adult) to $8 (children). Limited reserved seating in WPA is also available for $20.On Monday, August 21, Brevard Music Center will host a special VIP event, Total Eclipse of the Sun, from 11 AM to 4 PM. Visitors will experience the Eclipse from a prime viewing location on the BMC campus among an intimate group of only 200 attendees, as well as enjoy a delightful lunch of local BBQ with all the trimmings while listening to live lakeside performances. Western North Carolina blues/rock band, Daddy Rabbit, will be featured along with other local musicians.

The $100 per person ticket price includes VIP parking, BBQ, live music, Eclipse safety glasses provided by the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI), lectures by guest astronomers and Eclipse experts, a live stream of the Eclipse from other locations across the country, and access to prime, unobstructed sites to view the Total Solar Eclipse. For the first time ever, Brevard Music Center will make accommodations available on its grounds, giving families and guests a unique opportunity to discover a host of campus amenities and priority access to all Eclipse events. Throughout the weekend, accommodations will be available in the cabins on the BMC campus. Each cabin sleeps four guests and a rollaway bed can be added for a child. Reservations can be made online at brevardmusic.org/about/accommodations/eclipse.

All proceeds from Eclipse Weekend @ BMC benefit Brevard Music Center Summer Institute and our mission of teaching gifted young musicians to prepare and perform great musical works at a high artistic level. The VIP Eclipse & Luncheon event is sponsored by Tryon Estates, an Acts Retirement-Life Community in Columbus, North Carolina.

Enjoy performances as captivating as the view. This is Brevard. Be inspired. Be here. Led by Artistic Director and alumnus Keith Lockhart, also Principal Conductor of the Boston Pops and BBC Concert Orchestra, Brevard Music Center stands as one of the country's premier summer training programs and music festivals. Over ten weeks and among 40,000 attendees, the next generation of musicians gather in the captivating Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to perform great musical works alongside distinguished faculty and many of the most celebrated names in music.
