Ballet and Modern Dance Students Participate In Workshop With Wexford's FAME

20 lucky students of the Suzanne O'Leary school of Ballet and Modern Dance were given the chance to have a workshop with the dance captains of the hit touring musical, Fame - The Musical, currently underway in Wexford Opera House.

Fame - The Musical is the inspirational story of a diverse group of talented students studying at the New York School of the Performing Arts. The show explores issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy and perseverance. The highs and lows are too much for some, but the kids' determination to find greatness shines through. So naturally it was important to carry on that theme and give the opportunity to some of Wexford's budding talent.

The eager hopeful performers were invited onto the set of FAME by dance co-captains Jaye Elster and A.C. Garcia, who, like many of the cast members already have a plethora of professional theatre and television credits to their names! Jaye and A.C. put the Wexford students through their paces, teaching them a dance number from FAME - 'Dancing on the Sidewalk'. The workshop was challenging for the young dancers, who had just 45 minutes to learn a complicated routine and perform it at the same pace as the live performances. Teacher and Choreographer, Suzanne O Leary, said "This is the nearest most of my students have come to experiencing the level expected at a West End audition, so it was great for the students with career ambitions in professional theatre to see what lies ahead!"

After the invigorating dance session, Ben Morris and Jessica Cervi, winners of the RTÉ talent competition, joined the students on stage for a question and answer session. Speaking about how their own dreams came true thanks to a lot of hard work and the opportunity presented to them by RTÉ and Robert C. Kelly Productions who undertook this phenomenal project, Ben and Jessica were quizzed by the inspired students, who were offered some great advice about pursuing their own dreams!
