Based on the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Red Shoes is a story about one woman's passion for dance. Torn between love and her ambition to be the world's greatest dancer, this is a dark tale about obsession.

Matthew Bourne's productions are known for their accessibility and The Red Shoes is no exception. The plot is easy to follow and contains humour despite the darker elements of the story. The costumes and scenery are both stunning which makes the production a visual treat from start to finish.

The Red Shoes is set to a new score arranged by Terry Davies using the music of golden-age Hollywood composer, Bernard Herrmann which gives it a wonderfully timeless feel.

Ashley Shaw is the perfect leading lady as dancer Victoria Page. She manages to portray so much emotion through her movement which seems to be effortless. The group dance scenes are breathtaking as the entire company are perfectly in sync.

The Red Shoes is a beautiful and captivating production which would be enjoyed by die-hard dance fans as well as first timers.

The Red Shoes is at the King's Theatre, Glasgow until Saturday 10th June.
