BREAKING: Bill Cosby to Return to Network TV in New NBC Family Comedy

Deadline reports exclusively that legendary comedian and actor Bill Cosby is returning to network TV in a new family sitcom for NBC. Cosby will once again partnered with producer Tom Werner on the project.

Three decades after Cosby single-handedly revived the sitcom genre on TV with 'The Cosby Show,' the comic will star in a new half-hour family comedy. According to the report, he will portray the head of a multi-generational family. Similar to his past two TV outings, the show will focus on the inherent humor found in marriage and parenting. The project has been placed on the off-season development track.

Back in November, Cosby commented to Yahoo TV, "They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes. Warmth and forgivenes. So I hope to get that opportunity, and I will deliver the best of Cosby."

It was recently announced that Cosby will present a reboot of his animated series Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids along with writer-producer Tom Straw.

The Cosby Show aired for eight seasons on NBC from September 20, 1984 until April 30, 1992. The show focused on the Huxtable family, an upper middle-class African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York.

The Cosby Show was based on comedy routines in Cosby's standup act, which were based on his family life. Other sitcoms, such as Home Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond, would later follow that pattern. The show spawned the spin-off A Different World, which ran for six seasons from 1987 to 1993.
