According to the Daily Mail, Alexia Khadime, who plays 'Nabulungi' in the West End's BOOK OF MORMON, is in talks to lead ABYSSINIA at Sheffield Theatres and Hackney Empire.

With music by Ted Kociolek, lyrics by James Rachel and book by Kociolek & Rachel, ABYSSINIA is based on the book "Marked by Fire" by Joyce Carol Thomas.

The gospel musical premiered in 1987 at the CSC Repertory Theater and has since been seen at North Shore Music Theatre, NAMT's New Works Festival, Boston's Shubert Theater, Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut and at the Cleveland Play House.

The Mail writes that Khadime has already appeared in private workshop performances of a revamped version with Sharon D. Clarke and Clive Rowe. No word yet on when the musical will run.

Among Khadime's past West End credits are LES MISERABLES, WICKED and THE LION KING. She has also appeared in the UK tours of LEADER OF THE PACK and of WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND, as well as WELCOME TO THEBES at the Royal National Theatre and ORDINARY DAYS at Trafalgar Studios.
