Lyric Stage will celebrate Black History Month with ABYSSINIA February 14-16, 2020, continuing its Wonder Women of Season 27. 

With so many great performances and classes throughout Orlando, the next logical step would increase our national arts footprint by fostering new work. That's where Winter Park Playhouse's Florida Festival of New Musicals comes in.

The first ever New Musical Festival comes to Orlando this week at Winter Park Playhouse. If you've ever wondered where musicals are born, this is how. With the help of arts organizations like Winter Park Playhouse, musical creators can refine their pieces and use it as a stepping stone towards publication. Orlando is quite the creative place and having a new musical festival fits right in. I took a moment to chat with Roy Alan, who serves as the Artistic Director for Winter Park Playhouse about the festival.

Brooklyn based Ryan Repertory Company, now in its 45th season, and Family Music Centers are proud to present Singing For The Boys. In a "performance that never was but should have been" Al Jolson, Judy Garland and Deanna Durbin come together in 1943 at the Palace Theatre in New York City for a one-night benefit performance to support the overseas war effort and to entertain the troops. Through their signature hit songs and popular songs of the period the audience is taken on a personal journey that reveals what made these three performers truly legendary and what made them so very human, both onstage and backstage. A must see theatrical and musical experience!!!  

The Winter Park Playhouse launches it's new Florida Festival of New Musicals August 24 - 27 of this year, and has just confirmed the winning selections for 2017.

The award-winning York Theatre Company presents the musical, JESUS' KID BROTHER, May 25th at 3 p.m. The musical is part of the York Theatre Company's Development Reading Series which announced the cast for two other new musicals: THE AGE OF INNOCENCE with a reading on May 27th and LA LLARONA with a reading on June 2nd. One of the many reasons I've been a fan of the Opening Doors Theatre Company since their debut production of Bring Back Birdie two-and-a-half years ago is the consistent ability of their directors and choreographers to have as many as a dozen actors singing and dancing on the small cabaret stage of The Duplex (already occupied by a piano) without ever looking crowded. But that's not a concern with their newest venture, the hilarious and tuneful Cy Coleman/Michael Stewart 1977 musical, I Love My Wife.
