BLACK VIOLIN's Kev and Wil B Return to NYC for Run at New Victory Theater, 11/9-25
Virtuoso violinists Kev Marcus and Wilner Baptiste – aka Kev and Wil B of BLACK VIOLIN – return to New York with their funky fusion of classical, jazz, hip-hop, blues and R&B. With DJ TK on the turntables, Beatdown on the drums, and Joe Cello rounding out the band, these Apollo Legends, who played to sold-out New Vic houses in 2009, will perform a concert of new compositions, classic favorites and pop cover tunes at The New Victory Theater, 209 West 42nd Street, from November 9 through November 25.
Combining an array of musical styles to produce a Signature Sound that is part maestro, part emcee, BLACK VIOLIN has influences ranging from Shostakovich and Bach to Nas and Jay-Z. In 2004, the group joined superstar Alicia Keys on stage at the Billboard Music Awards. In 2005, the group was awarded the title of Apollo Legend by the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Since then, BLACK VIOLIN has toured the world and worked with musicians as diverse as Sean Combs, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Aretha Franklin and the Eagles, among many others. Last July, they appeared with Gym Glass Heroes on VH1's "Unplugged," and at the end of this month, they launch a new album entitled Classically Trained.
Florida natives, Kev and Wil B met while attending the Dillard High School of Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. After graduating from high school, both were granted full music scholarships to college -- Florida International University and Florida State, respectively. Conceived and designed by Wilner Baptiste and Kevin Marcus, BLACK VIOLIN also features Dwayne "DJ TK" Dayal on turntables, Jermaine "Beatdown" McQueen on drums and Joseph "Joe Cello" Valbrun on the cello. Black Violin is represented by Jeremiah Younossi and managed by George Green.
BLACK VIOLIN is recommended for everyone 6 and older.
