On Saturday March 8, 2014, American Repertory Ballet will present Artistic Director Douglas Martin's full-length ballet Romeo and Juliet, set to Prokofiev's enchanting score, at 8:00pm at Raritan Valley Community College.

Staying true to Shakespeare's original tragic love story, Martin's ballet features a company of 30 dancers, costumes designed by Michelle Ferranti, and sets by scenic designer Kevin Lee Allen. Scenic and costume designs have been created and perfected to provide the audience with the feel of the early Renaissance era in Italy.

Martin's Romeo and Juliet was recently named one of the Star-Ledger's "Top Ten in Dance" for 2013 by dance critic Robert Johnson. Johnson called the October premiere a "watershed in the company's history." He said the ballet "hit all the passionate high-notes in Prokofiev's score, moving seamlessly from one episode to the next."

Jerry Hochman of Critical Dance writes highly about Martin's directing skills, stating "Mr. Martin is particularly adept at choreographing stage-spanning action," and also discusses that Martin's choreography for the 'lead' members "satisfies the essential prerequisites: it is visibly interesting to watch; and most importantly, it successfully moves the audience."

ARB's Romeo and Juliet was first premiered in October 2013 at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ.

Tickets for Romeo and Juliet at Raritan Valley Community College on March 8, 2014 at 8:00pm, are available online.
