Alex Timbers Signs on for Universal's ROSALINE's Film

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Broadway director Alex Timbers, who will soon direct Rocky on Broadway, has signed on to helm a comedic version of Romeo and Juliet titled "Rosaline" for Universal. The project is loosely based on Rebecca Serle's 2012 "When You Were Mine" novel, and focuses on the classic romance told from the perspective of Juliet's cousin and Romeo's initial love interest.

The two-time Tony nominee's Broadway credits include the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson for which he won a Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical, a Tony nomination for his book, and an Outer Critics Circle Award for his direction.

His other credits include The Language of Trees for the Roundabout Theatre Company, Beyond Therapy for Williamstown Theatre Festival and Bay Street Theater, the Off-Broadway hit Boozy, for which he also served as playwright, and underground at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music and internationally with David Dorfman Dance.

The director recently helmed the original musical adaptation of Love's Labour's Lost and is developing a feature adaptation of Dale Basye's young adult novel Heck: Where The Bad Kids Go for MGM.
