ABC Music Lounge's "Nashville"-inspired docu-web series, "On the Record," is live at www.abc.com/musiclounge with the original song, "Why Can't I Say Goodnight," written by Kim Richey and performed by Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor and Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott. The song, which is also available now on iTunes and ABC.com/MusicLounge, is featured in the season premiere of "Nashville," WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMEBER 25 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

"On the Record: Why Can't I Say Goodnight?" goes behind the scenes with "Nashville's" creator/executive producer Callie Khouri, music producer Buddy Miller, showrunner Dee Johnson; songwriter's Kim Richey and Angelo Petraglia and the song's performers Clare Bowen (Scarlett O'Connor) and Sam Palladio (Gunnar Scott) as each share their reaction to the music, how it resonates with the various characters and ultimately complements the story line.

"What I like best about this song is that it really captures the mood of when you first meet someone that you're really taken with and you just don't want the night to end," shared Richey.

"We knew the song had to be really special, and it had to be emblematic of that Bluebird experience. It's not just inserting a song - the song is telling a story, it is another character in the show," added Johnson.

All original music is released by ABC Studios, Lionsgate and ABC Music Lounge in association with Big Machine Records.

"On the Record" is a documentary web series that follows the life of original songs performed on "Nashville" written by singer/songwriters in the music scene, from the songs' inception to on-air premiere. The series offers an intimate look into the songwriting process, from guitar demo to music video and all the steps in between.

"It is such a rewarding and insightful project to be a part of - we truly believe the 'On The Record' series is an incredibly special opportunity for fans, viewers and music lovers alike to familiarize themselves with the song writing process; and, from not just the perspective of the songwriters, but also the producers and actors. There is a lot of heart that goes into creating and selecting the music for "Nashville" and you can really see it in the way that everything comes together in the series," said Dawn Soler, SVP Music, ABC Studios.

"Nashville" stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Eric Close as Teddy Conrad, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad and Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad.

"Nashville" is executive-produced by Dee Johnson ("Boss," "The Good Wife), R.J. Cutler ("The September Issue," "The War Room," "A Perfect Candidate"), Callie Khouri ("Thelma & Louise") and Steve Buchanan. The series is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios, and Opry Entertainment, and is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format with 5.1 channel surround sound.
