39 STEPS Tops List of 'Most Produced Plays'

According to and article by Benjamin Sutton in The L Magazine, the Theatre Communications Group, has revealed which playwrights have the most works to be produced this season in the United States.  In the top slot is Patrick Barlow who adapted Hitchcock's hilarious 1935 film, THE 39 STEPS.

The pubished list is as follows:

1. Patrick Barlow: 26
2. Tracy Letts: 20
3. Sarah Ruhl: 19
4. Lynn Nottage: 17
5. August Wilson: 17
6. Annie Baker: 17
7. Tennessee Williams: 15
8. Steven Dietz: 15
9. Edward Albee: 15
10. George Bernard Shaw: 13

The list does not include plays by Shakespeare, who topped the list with an astounding 115 productions.  Other top produced plays included August: Osage County, Superior Donuts, The Passion Play, and Dead Man's Cell Phone.
