The Bad Theater Fest, created as a safe, fun and open environment for artists to present their work is taking submissions for their off-off-Broadway festival. The free-to-submit event will take place at Chelsea's This Theater, 154 W 29th St (between 6th and 7th), 2nd Fl New York, NY 10001. The event is scheduled to take place over three consecutive weekends Friday and Saturday, Oct 17 and 18, Oct 24 and 25, Oct 31 and Nov 1, plus Sunday Nov 2.

Called an "inherently joyous... assortment of shows," by The Telegraph, the Bad Theater Fest frees the playwrights and actors from the weight of trying to please the audience and, "...allows for the creation of art that entertains themselves," said Co-Founder Shawn Wickens.

The festival has attracted both first-time playwrights and eclectic material from more established artists. 2013 festival highlights include the award-winning Get Up, Gowanus!, an inappropriate kids show starring puppets that takes place on the toxic banks of Gowanus Canal. In Who's the Biggest A-hole, a game show determines who is the biggest a-hole on stage, the winning contestant awarded $50. Plus three staged pieces written by first time playwrights and students of Voices Inside/Out's writing program at a medium security prison in Burgin, Kentucky graced the Bad Theater stage.

With a focus on short plays, the Bad Theater Fest seeks creative and exciting pieces of Drama, Comedy, Experimental, Musical, Clowning, Improvisation, LGBT-themed, Short Films, Staged Readings more. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 15 at Midnight EST.
The submissions process is 100% free. Projects may be submitted through the form available at http://www.badtheaterfest.com/home/submit2014/. Interested playwrights should include a short bio, short description of the play, and a list and links of similar projects (if applicable).
Bad Theater Fest also runs the Bad Film Fest, an annual Spring collection of weird, witty and wacky short films from around the world.

All festival information is available at badtheaterfest.com and on Twitter @badtheaterfest.
