1,500 Young Dancers Vie for $1 Million in Scholarships & Broadway Roles

Skipping the usual 4th of July festivities, over 1,500 young dancers from across the country and as far as Brazil, Costa Rica & Canada have taken over the Sheraton New York for the 17th Annual NYC Dance Alliance Convention from June 30 to July 7. The young dancers aged 5-18, the best of the best from dance schools across the two continents, will participate in workshops with the country's top choreographers, dance teachers and Broadway stars prior to competing for scholarships to the best secondary schools, colleges & universities.

The dancers will also participate in daily auditions for such Broadway shows as "Billy Elliot", "Memphis", "Come Fly Away", the revivals of "Peter Pan" and "Annie" and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Who: 1,500+ dancers from two continents working with award-winning choreographers, dancers and choreographers in preparation for competitions

What: New York City Ballet star Tyler Beck & NYCDA Alumni will lead a class in preparation for the finals with Joe Lanteri, Director NYC Dance Alliance

When: Sunday July 3, from 11 am to 1 pm

Where: Empire Ballroom, Sheraton New York Hotel, Seventh Avenue at 53rd St.

Why: Young dancers & their families have passed on the traditional 4th of July celebrations to participate in this unique opportunity to be seen by major figures in the world of dance, partake in workshops led by award winning dancers teachers and choreographers and to possibly win scholarships and be cast in a Broadway musical or major dance company.
