Teatro Paraguas will present a festive bilingual evening of live music, carols, and comedy entitled A Musical Piñata for Christmas III for eight performances beginning December 11th. This production is the third annual holiday celebration at Teatro Paraguas.

TP's musical director JoJo Sena de Tarnoff has formed an ensemble of musicians and actors ranging in age from 7 to 70. The evening will begin with a traditional Mexican version of Las Posadas, arranged by Thelma Arquello and Mario Reynolds, followed by traditional and contemporary Christmas carols in Spnish and English. The program will also feature original holiday music by the Santa Fe-based duo Melange.

Elvis, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the elves are all expected to make appearances a well.

On the theatrical side, Alix Hudson has adapted the story of El Milagro de la Nochebuena for the stage from story versions by Tomie dePaola. Pat Mora, Brian Cavanaugh and Joanne Oppenheim. The story centers on the custom of bringing regalos or gifts to the baby Jesus on Christmas Eve, and involves a brother and two sisters (played by TP's young actors Victoria Macias, Maya Sanchez, and Amador Gonzales) who have nothing to bring but their adoration and faith, and some weeds plucked by the roadside which transform miraculously into poinsettias. Xochitl Ehrl of Santa Fe Dance Works appears as the dancing Queen of the Poinsettias, with a group of young dancers as her attendants.

At the finale of the evening, the children in the audience will be invited to help break a piñata on stage.

Performances of A Musical Piñata for Christmas III are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm, beginning December 11 and closing on Sunday, December 20. Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. Both Sunday matinees are pay-what-you-wish.
