Feature: HAIRSPRAY at Music Theatre Wichita

Music Theatre Wichita will take audiences back to the 1960s with their production of Hairspray July 12-16.

According the the Theatre's website, Hairspray is "an outrageously happy musical that welcomes us back to the 1960s, this show follows the irrepressible Tracy Turnblad from an outsider to a teen celebrity. A smash hit on Broadway, Hairspray won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical."

Hairspray features music by Marc Shaiman (Catch Me If You Can, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Catch Me If You Can, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and book by Wittman and Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers). The original broadway production ran for 2,642 performances at the Neil Simon Theatre from 2002-2009. It was nominated for 12 Tony Awards and won 8, including Best Musical.
