Rowan Atkinson... not feeling too great.#1
Posted: 1/28/09 at 9:24am
So Rowan Atkinson misses his first performance today. Poor old bugger. Announced 20 minutes before showtime too, so think of all those excited people who read the cast list on that little screen as they wandered in.

The first of many performances I'm sure- he's rumored to bored titless already!
I bet he's got glue poisoning from that wig being too far down his forehead.

I'm so glad a saw it with him in it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that show is going to die when he goes.

They are currently in negotiations with another big TV comic in the same vein as him. The company have been told they will be told who it is in about a week or so.
I think Martin Clunes would be rather fab.

Martin Clunes would be awesome. Lenny Henry... don't even get me started. I would picket that show for SO many reasons if he was Fagin.

Certainly but is he a 'family' name for a family show. The kids wont know Rowan Atkinson until the parents say 'were going to see Mr. Bean in 'Oliver!'.
I do think he would be rather fab tho yes.

I see your point, but would it make any difference? Many people mistakenly go along to BILLY ELLIOT thinking it is a "family show" which I wouldn't consider it to be what with the language etc.Still it might bring in a different crowd, maybe they'll go the 3 month revolving star door policy?

I was at the matinee on the 28th and Tim Laurenti, who played Fagin, was excellent. I did hear people saying before the show started that they were disappointed Rowan Atkinson was not performing but everybody was very complimentary of Tim Laurenti after the show.

'The first of many performances I'm sure- he's rumored to bored titless already'!

How can Rowan moan he does not start until 8:15 and it is not a demanding role, like the leads in Jersey Boys who have to work there arse off for virtually the whole show and to boot they do 8 shows a week.

Yes, but the Jersey Boys cast want to be there, whereas Rowan Atkinson is merely succumbing to a decade's worth of peer-pressure with the caveat that he'll be leaving as soon as his rather short contract is up. It's pointless comparing the workloads when what you should be considering is the desire behind the workloads.

I am worried.
I want to see Oliver as I have never seen it on stage, I don't care which Oliver I see but it would be nice to see Jodie and Rowen.

My friend who I go with will be distraught if either Rowen or Jodie are out, she will probably blame me and the 2 hour journey home will be hell. It annoys me because she didn't even watch I'd do anything but knows Jodie won so she MUST be better than the alternate!

How can anyone be bored with playing a lead West End lead, I would give my right arm to do that, probably because I cannot sing for toffee and got two left feet, I will never will, I only can fantasize though, that one day I will be the next Edna, Phantom, Valjean or Galinda(def unlikely) etc. It riles me how someone could diminish such a great opportunity to play a lead role!

Phantom!
Try dong a show for anything from 10 weeks to 2 years and you will se how easily it is to get bored. You can love the theatre as much as i do BUT there is a line that everyone on stage crosses and it is hell. You can be in work for the first few months from collage or 25 years in the bizz - it will always happen.
