I would dread seeing David as Edna, however I think that Nicola Mclean would naturally fit the bill as Velma Von Tussle or even dare I say Elphaha in Wicked (think she is the evil one?).

David Van Day

He was a singer in the late 70s and early 80s pop group, Dollar. He also was part of the earlier group Guys n' Dolls, and later, Bucks Fizz.

He was a contestant in the latest series of I'm a Celebrity..
he has come across in a horrible way. He has been portrayed as arrogant, nasty and so far up his own backside that he can see out of his mouth... :)

Surely we can do better than this?

Desmond Barrit? Paul O'Grady?

Sam - how come you know about Bucks Fizz - I'm barely old enough to remember them.

When i was younger, about 7 or 8, my mum and dad had a big cd cabinet and i used to go through it and just listen away, and i came across a Bucks Fizz Greatest Hits. I put it on and love it!! haha!

After suffering through two days of Biggins hosting West End Live, I hope to never see the man near a stage again. Utterly obnoxious and no presence.

Why not just get Peter Kay in? He's the right build, a big name, and he can at least half ass the singing.

"I love you all soooo much!

Does that imply that the reaction of the West End board means an offer letter has been torn up somewhere?

"I really want Christopher Biggins!!"

That's another good idea Sam.

Ooh imagine if we had that much power...alas Graham Norton is still going into La Cage and Phantom 2 is still in the process..

i have to say Exedore, presenting a concert is a little different to performing a character in a musical production. At WEL he was himself, Christopher Biggins, onstage he'd be Edna. There's a lot of actors/actresses out there who aren't very nice and i wouldn't want to see hosting an event, but as long as they play the character well, then it doesn't matter.

Peter Kay is an interesting idea but I have to say I avoided The Producers in Manchester because he was in it.

We're struggling here aren't we!

I don't know what Mamasdoin'fine's build is but, if appropriate, maybe it's time for a return to the stage?

Biggins sat infront of me on a plane once, he was very polite and didnt eat or drink anything (it was only to manchester so not like he showed much restraint and the sarnies were rank).

I saw him at the 30th anniversary concert of Side by Side by Sondheim where he did some of the narrative. He told a story about one of the original funders in the 1970s and the lengths he had to go to when he got down to his last 250,000. The story would have made Graham Norton blush. Biggins was outrageous and very indiscrete; I was very amused but I'm glad I wasn't the funder he was telling the story about.

David Van Day is completely devoid of talent. Would be interesting to get a more daring choice in the role. I wonder if John Barrowman is looking for work after his most recent indiscretion at the BBC?

Please tell me you are kidding me!! DVD is possibly THE most annoying man on the face of the earth (maybe a slight overstatement hehe). I think Biggins would make a great Edna, but wouldnt he be a bit too old for the role?? I dont think Peter Kay would have the subtlety to carry out the more sensitive parts of the show.

legallysam I agree completely - Biggins would be perfect! I've been saying so since before Michael Ball was cast (as great as he is in the part also).

Christopher Biggins, while he can be wickedly rude when appropriate, is a lovely, kind man. The few times I've had the pleasure to chat with him he couldn't have been nicer. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Cinderella in Southampton this coming Saturday - unfortunately he's not playing Dame this year - he's generally regarded as one of the best in the business hence his suitability to play Edna.

Incidentally, does anyone remember the early casting rumours that Barry Humphries would play his Damely namesake?

OK guys, you all know that i started this thread as a complete and utter joke.
Now, I sit here shuddering with cold waves of fear engulfing me. This total prat of a guy has just been on TV and just mentioned that he has an appointment with West End producers for a starring role next year!
Oh dear God don't spoil our Christmas and New Year by placing this talentless idiot on the stage of the West End.
