When 'Dreamgirls' was in workshop prior to Broadway she played a wise cracking old Jewish lady that Effie, now working as a nurse, was looking after to make some money after leaving The Dreams. The part was cut before reaching Broadway but due to the contract she signed she received payment for the role for whole run on Broadway! She always used to say that she payed her phone bill with that cheque!
