Loud and Startling Noises in Musicals?#0

Help! I cannot stand to be startled at shows by gunshots, pyrotechnics, or anything else generally loud and disturbing! I have gotten used to Les Mis, but need to know whether there is anything of concern in the following shows:

1.) Billy Elliot
2.) Cabaret - I see everyone posting about something jarring at the very end, but is this something loud?
3.) Wicked
4.) Evita

Any other thoughts would be appreciated!!!

Blood Brothers has a very 'jumpy' moment at the end...makes me jump every time and I know it's coming. Just put my fingers in my ears now

Well, in Wicked there is this whole song where Elphaba emits this loud and startling noise from her mouth. I think it's called Defying Gravity or something...it's quite shocking. Of course, the million or so 8 year old girls in the audience screaming doesn't do much for the ol' nerves either.

Not in any of the ones above but the train coming out of the tunnel in the Woman in White was so unbelievably overamplified that the sound completely distracted from what was actually going on onstage.

Both the OVERURE and the ENTRE ACT in MAMMA MIA! have gotten me twice.

OK, but the end of the current London revival of Cabaret is nothing of concern?

No, there's nothing loud or startling in Cabaret.
The sheer mediocrity of the production is pretty startling in Evita, but there's nothing particuarly loud...

I agree, what an odd thread..? It'd be interesting to know from what point of view the loud sounds bother you... is it ears? is it heart? Because if its just sudden loud noises then getting to the theatre must be hell through central London.

I have the same problem with Blood Brothers - I've seen it 8 times now and it still gets me. When I saw the tour a couple of months back, we were sat in the front row on the far right of the auditorium so it was even worse!

Agreed about Blood Brothers: I love that show so much but the shots at the end ALWAYS get me!
I hate loud noises in shows!
