Hope it does. Lets give London a huge dollop of culture to balance out most of the crap we have filling up the west end!

Expect an announcement soon. Sonia Friedman is producing this.

She wanted Julia Mckenzie to take on Barbra Cooks role, but she doesn't feel well enough to commit.

I'm so excited ! If this plays during the first two weeks of October, Barbara Cook has her schedule free, maybe they could get her. Please have at least Norm Lewis.

You don't like him? The man is easily the best male singer on a West End stage right now. Its a shame its such old material but could listen to him all day.

I like him. But I think it's patronising to declare him "easily" the best male singer in the West End. That's absolute nonsense, there are other great singers out there, too.

Wouldn't say Norm Lewis is the best singer on a West End stage right now, so much choice, but norm is certainly very good, when I saw him in Sondheim on Sondheim st Studio 54 he was very good, also seen Norm in Les Miserable (New York revival) and The Little Mermaid.

As for Sondheim on Sondheim coming to London, I hope it does for all the Sondheim fans, this just be the icing on the cake, also hope this is staged like New York production.

Paronising? No I think not. I did consider who is around at the moment and his only serious rivals are Ramin Karimloo and Gavin Creel.

I'm just going on people who I have heard do solo work as I'm sure there are some cracking voices in the ensembles. But look around the various shows...
Lee Mead? Simon Bowman? Norman Bowman? Oli Thornton? Current Galileo? Paul Spicer?!

I like all those performers and enjoy their vocal work but when you compare to some of the top voices on Broadway and contrast there is a gap. Perhaps its stylistic and placement but I find too many performers have the same approach. The homogeneity you hear is stifling. Its safe and dull.

And 'absolute nonsense' isn't patronising?

We're going round in circles here. Let's just agree... Norm is one of the best male performers on the West End stage at the moment.

Agreed.

And yes, mrkringas - I agree he is better than the men you listed.

Only Karimloo and Creel? Focussing on Les Mis alone I'd have to name David Thaxton, Killian Donnelly and David Shannon, and they are not ensemble members and do certainly not have the approach that you're criticising. I agree that there are not many strong (and young!) male leads out there that can perform and sing a dramatic role convincingly with vocal power, but Norm Lewis is not the only one.
