Now Here's A Funny Thing....
A new production of Sondheims 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum' is about to announce dates for a London opening early year.
Cameron Mackintosh is expected to open the show at the Gielgud Theatre (possibly Wyndams)
After his critical success in Cameron's 'Oliver!', Omid Djalili is lined up to play Pseudolus.

The National Theatre did an truly wonderful production of this a few years back. It is a gem of a show and the songs are brilliantly constructed.

Is definitely worth another airing. Looking forward to it already!

I wish I saw that production as it had some of my favourites in the supporting cast and ensemble

Hoping this is true. The 96 revival of FORUM with Nathan Lane was the first thing I ever saw on Broadway.

It's such a great show and brilliantly constructed. The book is a riot and the score fits it like a glove. I hope I get a chance to see this revival. I saw the Broadway revival with Nathan Lane and it was hilarious.

Anyone who saw the NT productions will know that if this new Mackintosh production happens it wont come anywhere near that incredible night in the theatre in the company of Des Barrit and company.
The Broadway production paled in comparison, dreadfully over played even for this piece.

I first saw 'Forum' with Frankie Howerd (reprising his role from 'Up Pompeii') and Patrick Cargill at the Piccadilly Theatre in 1986 - Howerd had played the original London production between 1963 and 1965.

I loved Desmond Barrit's performance at the National but think that Omid Djalili could also do the character justice - I'm sorry I missed his Fagin and think he would make a great Max Bialystock.
