Turner, Fisher, Etc. Win Critics Circle Theatre Awards

Kathleen Turner, Rufus Sewell and Connie Fisher are among the winners of The 18th Annual Critics Circle Theatre Awards.

The awards, for which nominees are not released in advance, were announced at the Prince of Wales Theater yesterday. 

Tom Stoppard's Rock 'N' Roll was selected as Best Play, while Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's Caroline or Change, presented by The National Theatre, won the Peter Hepple Award for Best Musical.

Rock 'N' Roll star Sewell was chosen as Best Actor, with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? star Kathleen Turner the winner for Best Actress.

The Sound of Music's Connie Fisher and Andrew Garfield (for Beautiful Thing, Burn/Chatroom/Citizenship, and The Overwhelming) share the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer.  Tasmin Grieg was honored with the John and Wendy Trewin Award for Best Shakespearean Performance for her work in Much Ado About Nothing.

Nina Raine won Most Promising Playwright for Rabbit and John Tiffany was awarded as Best Director, for Black Watch.  The award for Best Design went to Punchdrunk Faust Company.
