Final casting is announced for a thrilling new production of Misanthtrope - to be performed in English and French on different days - starring and directed by Off West End Awards Best Director nominee David Furlong.
Misanthtrope will run at Camden Preople's Theatre from Tuesday 19 June to Saturday 7 July. In an age with 'alternative facts' and 'fake news' make headlines in newspapers and on TV news, Exchange Theatre reimagines Moliere's satire on the 17th century French court, The Misanthrope, and relocates it in a 21st century TV newsroom. Costumed in modern dress and surrounded with high tech equipment this production makes relevant this enduring classic as it serves to explore the idea of gossip, innuendo and ultimately fake news. Alceste who despises the attitudes of his time, preferring to avoid flattery or deceit, and telling the truth no matter what the consequences, searching for genuineness against hypocrisy, special interests and treachery, is a handsome news anchor in love with Célimene, a bright but slightly vain socialite and hard-living gossip columnist. David Furlong (Alceste) is joined by Fanny Dulin (Arsinoe/Eliante), Anoushka Rava (Célimene), James Buttling (Clitandre), Simeon Oakes (Philinte), Leo Elso (Oronte), Samuel Arnold (Acaste).Photo Credit: Anais Le Pape
