Leicester Square Theatre is celebrating the news that a staggering 262,000 people bought tickets for its eclectic mix of big name comedy stars and cutting edge theatre in its first 12 months in the West End.

Opening after more than £400,000 of renovation work, with Joan Rivers' acclaimed autobiographical play, "Joan Rivers: A Work in Life in Progress by a Life in Progress", Leicester Square Theatre?has since played host to some truly legendary names of comedy, from Jimmy Carr, Roseanne Barr, Sandra Bernhard, Brendon Burns, Doug Stanhope and Russell Howard to the London debut of teen internet sensation, Bo Burnham.

Plays have included the critically acclaimed Ian Dury biography, "Hit?Me", the cutting edge gay drama "Blowing?Whistles" and Mark?Little bringing his Olivier award-winning battle of the sexes, "Defending the?Caveman", back to the West End. "Caveman" and "Hit?Me" were such runaway successes, they are both returning in 2010.

Artistic Director Martin Witts said: "2009 has been a truly memorable first year and we are delighted that more than a quarter of a million people wanted to see the wonderful mix of International Artists we presented. But we're not resting on our laurels. We have a terrific autumn season lined up, with Richard Herring, Stewart Lee, Julian Clary and Jim Jeffries showcasing the very best in comedy and ahead of his 2010 European Tour, Boy George will perform a set of exclusive intimate shows... stripped down, acoustic and unplugged. On the drama front we are pleased to welcome back to the West?End John Godber's classic comedy, "Bouncers".

"We also have Bobby?Crush starring in the world premiere of a play about legendary showman Liberace - "Liberace Live from Heaven" - and a
stunning one-woman play about Marilyn Monroe - Marilyn Forever Blonde" - that has won 12 awards in America. We even have an adults-only gay pantomime, "Sinderfella". And we are very excited about "Miss Polly Rae:?The All New Hurly Burly Show", the first collaboration between Britain's burlesque sensation, Miss?Polly Rae, and William Baker, celebrated stylist and 15 years Creative?Director for Kylie Miogue. With musical direction by Steve Anderson, the show is set to be a multi perfornance extravaganza.

"The Just the Tonic comedy night has cemented our reputation as the West End home to the the very best comedy, so we are doubling it to two nights a week. To celebrate we are presenting a special series of Just The Tonic Shows on September 29th, 30th October 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th, with top names, including?Nina Conti, Robin Ince, Dan Antopolski and Jeff?Green, and with all seats just £5.

"But we are not restricted to just presenting the big names in entertainment - we think it's important - and exciting, too - to showcase brilliant up-and-coming artists and the cult names of the underground. Using our much lauded intimate Basement Theatre, we nurture up and coming talent. You might not recognise all the names in our upcoming season... but you'll certainly be hearing more from them soon!"

Leicester Square Theatre is the West End's newest and most luxurious theatre, with two exceptional spaces for drama, comedy, music and cabaret. The beautiful Main House has unique, newly-installed Oscar-style seating and has the bonus of two large bars within the auditorium. Run for the hills if you don't like openness and open wounds in songs, but you'll be missing some of our best musical theater singers treating a skilled writer's work with care and matching his passion.
