Fans of the hit Green Day musical American Idiot will be happy to hear that after the national tour closed in May, plans were put into motion to bring the rock show to the college level-apropos to its age demographic and subject matter. Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia, known for its dedication to pop/rock voice training will be the first school to premiere the work on the non-professional level. According to Musical Theatre International's website, it is currently the only licensed production of the show.

Musical Theatre Program Coordinator Jonathan Flom has been working with Stephen Gabriel from Work Light Productions (The producers of the National Tour of Idiot) on getting the show to Shenandoah for the last two years. Once the tour closed officially, Shenandoah was granted the license.

The show has its gala premiere opening tonight, September 26 at 8pm and runs Sept. 27 at 8pm, Sept. 28 at 7pm, and October 2-4 at 8pm in the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre of Shenandoah University, 1460 University Drive, Winchester, VA 22601. For tickets, contact www.conservatoryperforms.org or (540) 665-4569.

The production will be directed by Flom and choreographed by Tiffanie Carson (A Christopher K. Morgan & Company dancer). Musical direction will be in the hands of Thomas Albert with vocal supervision by Matthew Edwards. Scenic design is by Bill Pierson, Costume design by Tanner Pippert, Lighting design by Mac Bozman and Chris Mudie, and Sound design by Golder O'Neill. Projection design is by Jonathan Flom and Alec Sparks.
