CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM: THE MUSICAL to Play Imagination Stage
Imagination Stage will host CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM: THE MUSICAL at its Lerner Family Theatre in Bethesda, Maryland, September 26 through October 18, as part of the show's national tour.
Written and originally directed by Kathryn Chase Bryer and Janet Stanford, this production invites audiences into the world of Brother and Sister Bear as they follow a year through the seasons. Children sit on the floor around the stage and may join in the action as the characters see a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase an elusive fish, and skate on an icy pond. Music arrangements are by Moira Todd. Best for ages 1-4.

Imagination Stage Premieres THE HULA-HOOPIN' QUEEN
Imagination Stage, the metro DC region's largest professional theatre for children, debuts its latest new play commission, The Hula-Hoopin' Queen, adapted for the stage by Gloria Bond Clunie from the book by Thelma Lynne Godin, illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton. Angelisa Gillyard directs.
Early Childhood Shows and Education Programs Abound This Winter At Imagination Stage
As 2023 starts, Imagination Stage welcomes the very youngest theatre-goers and learners to its robust early childhood programming for ages 1-5. The programming, called “My First Imagination Stage,” comes in these forms:
BEING HERE: A DIGITAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE at Solas Nua
Exploring the digital landscape of theatre, Solas Nua is commissioning a new play to capture the self isolation that people around the world are experiencing during the COVID 19 pandemic. Audiences can tune into the production to enjoy a live performance of a play specifically written for the online platform. The performance will feature optional, mild audience interaction.

What is the history of Imagination Stage ?
Imagination Stage was founded as BAPA (Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts) in 1979 in response to the urgent need for arts education for young people. The company was renamed Imagination Stage in 2001 in anticipation of its move to its downtown Bethesda theatre arts center in 2003. Imagination Stage has grown from a handful of children in a single classroom to a full-spectrum theatre arts organization, with theatre productions by professional actors and artists. Unlike most children’s theatre companies, Imagination Stage commissions new works for children every year. These productions have been recognized with awards and productions by other companies around the world.
