Joe Hisaishi's Concerto for Orchestra receives performances by The Philadelphia Orchestra on March 5–7, 2027, as part of an international series following the work's world premiere with the National Symphony Orchestra. Written in five movements and running approximately 45 minutes, the piece places the orchestra itself at the center of expression, following a form associated with composers such as Béla Bartók and Witold Lutosławski. The work features driving rhythmic textures in its outer movements and lyrical solo passages in the inner movements. Hisaishi, who serves as Composer-in-Residence with The Philadelphia Orchestra, leads the performances himself.
