John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

Joe Hisaishi conducts the National Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of his Concerto for Orchestra, running May 14–16 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Written in five movements and approximately 45 minutes in length, the work places the orchestra itself at the center of expression, following a form associated with composers such as Béla Bartók and Witold Lutosławski. The program also includes Steve Reich's Three Movements and music from The Boy and the Heron. Hisaishi, known for his film scores and symphonic works, holds positions with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Paris Philharmonie, among others.
