The Welders-Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new plays-has been granted $30,000 by The Reva and David Logan Foundation. The challenge grant supports general operating at $10,000 for each of three years.

"General operating funding is the lifeblood of new arts organizations," said Jojo Ruf, The Welders' Executive and Creative Director. "Having three years of support from the Logan Foundation means that we can boldly move forward in presenting our final production before passing a financially solid organization on to the next generation of Welders."

Based in Chicago, IL, the Logan Foundation supports strategic grants to support the arts, investigative journalism, scholarship and social justice.

Said Welders' Artistic Director Gwydion Suilebhan: "We're about to open the fifth and final production of the founding playwrights comprising The Welders. It's gratifying to know that this funding will support us as we transition to the next group of artists, who will lead the organization in the coming years."

Along with Ruf and Suilebhan, Welders' playwrights Bob Bartlett, Renee Calarco, Allyson Currin, and Caleen Sinnette Jennings will have written, developed, and produced five new plays over the course of three years. After their term is complete in summer of 2016, the five playwrights will give The Welders' operations to a new generation of playwrights.

The Welders' fifth and final project, Suilebhan's Transmission, will run from April 30 - May 28, 2016 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC.
