Tango in Silk is a solo ballroom performance that fuses Argentine tango with the grace of Chinese qipao aesthetics. Choreographed and performed by Chinese dancer Xi Liu, the piece tells the story of an East Asian woman arriving in the UK. Through movement, she expresses fear, cultural tension, and gradual transformation. Performed in a dramatic high-slit cheongsam, her gestures shift from hesitation to power - reflecting identity negotiation and East-West collision. With rich visual style, this short work is both intimate and theatrical. Audiences also receive a small Chinese fan, a symbolic cultural gesture and part of the immersive experience.
