SLAYERS to Make World Premiere at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

RUPTURE will present the world premiere of SLAYERS at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Written by Corinne Salisbury and directed by Josephine Rush, the production will run at Studio Five, Assembly George Square Studios, from August 18–30.

The one-woman play centers on Liane, a single mother and survivor of abuse who is attempting to protect her young daughter from the dangers she perceives in the world around them. When her daughter experiences bullying and Liane encounters misogynistic online communities known collectively as the "manosphere," the pair's response sets in motion a series of events that escalate beyond their control.

The play explores themes including misogyny, violence, parenting, justice, and the challenges of raising daughters in a contemporary social climate. Salisbury's script examines the tension between self-protection and retaliation while asking how anger can be channeled without becoming destructive.

“After recent high-profile documentaries and dramas about toxic masculinity and ‘the manosphere', I wrote SLAYERS to turn the lens back onto the women on the receiving end of it all,” said Salisbury. “I particularly wanted to write about mothers of pre-teen girls, and how the present moment fuels our fears for what might await our daughters.”

Salisbury is an Edinburgh-based playwright and producer whose work has been presented at the Traverse Theatre and Scottish Storytelling Centre. She has also been commissioned by National Theatre of Scotland and Paines Plough to create digital work.

The production marks the first show from the newly formed theatre company RUPTURE. The company has also announced its next production, THESE ARE OUR NEIGHBOURS, which will be presented at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow in October 2026.

SLAYERS was developed with support from Summerhall Arts.
