Little Angel Theatre Presents THE SINGING MERMAID

Little Angel Theatre presents The Singing Mermaid, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Lydia Monks, in collaboration with Royal & Derngate this spring.

One day, the singing mermaid is tempted away from all of her sea creature friends and her peaceful home at Silversands to join a travelling circus. The audiences love to hear her sing, but the poor mermaid was tricked! Instead of the swimming pool she was promised, she is kept in a small tank by the wicked circus master Sam Sly, and she soon longs to return to the freedom of the sea.

Will she ever escape? And who will help her along the way?

Through beautiful puppetry and performance, and with music by Barb Jungr (We're Going On A Bear Hunt), Little Angel Theatre collaborate once again with Royal & Derngate (Moominsummer Madness, 2014), to bring Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks' enormously popular story, The Singing Mermaid, to life.

Little Angel Theatre is a home for puppetry. Since its doors first opened in 1961 the theatre has been dedicated to creating and sharing inspiring stories. Puppetry is at the heart of this innovative theatre, from igniting the imaginations of the youngest minds to equipping tomorrow's puppeteers with the tools they need to succeed. As well as an internationally recognised theatre with productions touring throughout the UK and across the globe, Little Angel Theatre also has its roots in Islington, and works with its local, diverse community to break down barriers to arts engagement so all can benefit and enjoy this remarkable art form.

Royal & Derngate, Northampton, is the main venue for arts and entertainment in Northamptonshire. As one of the major producing venues in the country, it was named Regional Theatre of the year by the Stage 100 Awards in 2011 (and nominated again in 2016). The theatre also won the award for Best Presentation of Touring Theatre in the UK Theatre Awards 2015. Recent highlights of its produced work include a new musical version of The Jungle Book, a tour of Death of a Salesman and a major revival of The Herbal Bed (UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production 2016). Its work for younger audiences includes the multi-award-winning Flathampton.
