LOVE YOU LONG TIME (ALREADY) Will Make World Premiere at Theatre503
Jennifer Tang directs the debut play by Katie Đỗ, starring Tuyen Do and Jon Chew at Theatre503.
Theatre503 has announced acclaimed director Jennifer Tang (Cymbeline, Shakespeare's Globe) as director of the world premiere of love you long time (already), the next opening in the company's 2026 season. Performances will run 2 - 25 July 2026.
The four-strong cast is confirmed as Jon Chew (The Good Person of Szechuan, Lyric Hammersmith), Tuyen Do (Shadow and Bone, Netflix), Molly Harris (Measure for Measure, Donmar) and Zheng Xi Yong (American Psycho, Almeida).
Alongside director Jennifer Tang, the production's creative team includes TK Hay (Set / Costume Design), Cheng Keng (Lighting Design), Elena Peña (Sound Design), Dam Van Huynh (Movement Director), Polly Jerrold (Casting Director), Ellen Rey de Castro (Costume Supervisor) and Zoe Zimin Ho (Voice and Dialect Coach), working in association with The Sông Collective, who are also providing cultural consultancy.
love you long time (already) is a funny and moving debut by Vietnamese-American playwright Katie Đỗ. It is an intergenerational epic exploring mother and daughter relationships, migration and memory, the ties that bind us and the cost of breaking free from them.
Mai didn't expect her heaven to be reliving an engagement to an unfaithful husband. He's becoming a Buddhist monk. Mai's daughter Tâm is desperate to understand her mother. As time slips away and dreams overlap with reality, Mai and Tâm must learn how to love each other before heaven comes for them again.
Katie Đỗ is a Vietnamese-American playwright based in San Diego. She's a proud alum of the Sống Collective's Việt Writers Lab and the Public's Emerging Writers Group. Đỗ is also the inaugural recipient of Merrimack Repertory Theatre's Sokhary Chau Playwriting Fellowship. Her plays have been developed by South Coast Repertory (Pacific Playwrights Festival), Atlantic Theater Company (MixFest), The Sống Collective, The Public Theater, Orlando Shakes, and Artists at Play.
