Prumsodun Ok (b. 1987) is an artist, teacher, writer, and cultural activist committed to the positive transformation of our world. His interdisciplinary performances contemplate “the avant-garde in antiquity,” mining the tradition of Khmer classical dance to explore the intersection of contemporary social issues with new possibilities for performance. His original works have been presented at REDCAT (Los Angeles), CounterPULSE (San Francisco), OUTSider Festival (Austin), Teatro Benito Juárez (Mexico), Khmer Arts Theater (Cambodia), bhive (Greece), and at an international conference co-hosted by the Society of Dance History Scholars and the Congress on Research in Dance. In addition, he has performed in salon-style contexts for friends and select guests in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago de Chile.

Contemporary dancer-choreographer Blanca Li and Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Maria Alexandrova conjure mythological figures in a new evening-length work by Li, Goddesses and Demonesses, that has its US premiere at the New York City Center. Drawing on Greek mythology and the contrasting languages of classical ballet and contemporary dance, Li and Alexandrova explore the dual nature of femininity, transforming into archetypes ranging from nurturing mothers to femme fatales. The acclaimed performance also features original couture costumes by four of the world's foremost fashion designers: Jean-Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa, Stella McCartney and Sophie Theallet.  

Liz Lerman Receives 2017 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award

The 2017 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to choreographer, performer, writer, educator, and speaker Liz Lerman in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field.  Long ago dubbed the “Democrat of Dance” by Alan M. Kriegsman of The Washington Post, Lerman's extraordinary career of the past four decades includes a wide range of groundbreaking work. Established in 2007, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award's previous recipients include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and choreographer, performer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown, among others.
