In Mozarts brilliant comedy, two sets of lovers test their belief in fidelity. The men accept a wager from Don Alfonso to demonstrate that faithfulness in love is an unreliable foundation for a solid relationship. Aided by the womens clever maid Despina, each disguised man pays court to the wrong fiance, revealing the mens jealousy. Is this a bet they really want to win? Da Pontes witty libretto and Mozarts delicious melodies keep the fun moving through an unmatched series of arias, duets, and ensembles.
