Florida Studio Theatre to Host Four New Improv Shows, 3/22-4/12

By:

FST Improv is coming to a close. APRIL FOOLS! There's still plenty of laughs to be had in Bowne's Lab. Four new shows have been added to see the members of FST Improv will duke it out onstage for an all-out laugh-off in the spring series April Fools. There will be four late night 10pm performances of this show beginning March 22 and running through April 12. Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone at (941) 366-9000 or online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org.

During this hilarious battle of fools, each cast member will compete against each other for bragging rights and the 'Fool of Fools' title. Who will the winner be each week? That's for the audience to decide. This is a seriously funny competition with high stakes. There can only be one fool of fools.

"In 2010, we created the show as a special one-night-only event," said Rebecca Hopkins, FST Improv director and MC. "With rave reviews from our audience and how fast it sold out, we wanted to bring it back! The perfect show for spring fling, audiences get to choose who wins the title, and we get to continue to bring laughter to Sarasota audiences."

The FST Improv cast includes Rebecca Hopkins, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Chris Friday, Patrick A. Jackson, Darryl Knapp, Emily Levin, Angel Parker, Adam Ratner, Jon Sheridan Steve Turrisi, and Nathaniel Stevens on the piano. All will be returning in April to try to take the crown.

Known as Sarasota's contemporary theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret, the Gompertz Theatre, the John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne's Lab.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
