Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre

Minor in Applied Theatre

Do you feel alive when you’re on the stage? Study musical theater or theater at William Peace University. Our theater programs are led by award-winning teachers who have vast professional and academic experience and continue to work in the professional world. Students train under an impressive network of faculty and guest artists whose credits include Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, professional regional theatre, television, film, and radio, as well as strong academic achievements such as numerous publications, research presentations at prestigious international conferences, and teaching awards. WPU believes that students learn best by doing. That’s why our work is not just theory in the classroom, but also developed through on- and off-stage performances, travel experiences, and professional networking. Additionally, our team produces masterclasses and workshops led by invited guest artists, presents senior recitals, and engages in yearly professional partnerships with external theatre companies. Students also gain experience learning important off-stage work such as lights, sound, costumes, makeup, box office, marketing, and stage management. Our facilities include Kenan Auditorium (275-seat proscenium theater), Leggett Theater (90-seat black box theater), dance studio, keyboard lab, private rehearsal rooms with pianos, costumes & props storage, and a set construction warehouse. Additional opportunities outside the classroom include our annual NYC trip for seniors and WPU trips abroad, such as our recent theatre trip to London, where theatre students workshopped with actors in the West End and the Globe Theatre.

William Peace Theatre Takes Aim With ASSASSINS
by A.A. Cristi - March 14, 2018

Perhaps it is coincidental that the collaboration between Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman has grown in popularity since its 1990 Off-Broadway debut as the rise of mass shootings in America has increased its grip on the American psyche.  Whether one has anything to do with the other matters little. It cannot be ignored that the nation has a preoccupation with violence and the ideal of the "American Dream."

Honest Pint Theatre Company Presents THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY
by Stephi Wild - February 18, 2018

Veteran Raleigh actor David Henderson portrays every character in a small Jersey shore town as they unravel the story of Leonard Pelkey, a tenaciously optimistic and flamboyant 14-year-old boy who has gone missing. A luminous force of nature whose magic is only truly felt once he is gone, Leonard becomes an unexpected inspiration as the town's citizens question how they live, who they love, and what they leave behind. An amazing tour-de-force one-man performance that will enthrall you as several characters are brought fully to life without the use of costumes or props.
