DEGREES OFFERED

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts

Minor in Theatre

Minor in Dance

The Theatre & Dance Department provides students with programs of study that integrate practical production work with theater and dance principles, theory and historical development. Students in the department gain experience in all aspects of production and performance from writing, lighting and design, to choreography and on-stage presence. Students put these skills to work in the department’s three main-stage theater and two dance productions. At Cal Poly, the department actively seeks to break the barrier between the arts and a traditional academic education by embracing an interdisciplinary curriculum — nearly 40 percent of participants in Theatre & Dance productions are non-theatremajors, gathering vibrant talents from across campus. “Black Cat Cabaret,” an original production by Dance professor Christy McNeill, was shaped by the particular talents of the cast selection, making it a totally unique experience for the cast and audience.

Acceptance Rate:

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) has an overall acceptance rate of 30%.

Faculty Info:

Thomas John Bernard, Ramón A. Esquivel, Brian Healy, Karin Hendricks-Bolen, Diana Stanton, Christy Chand.
