Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater: Musical Theater


Boston Conservatory at Berklee offers a new model for the study of theater—as a means for discovering one’s authentic self, developing an empathetic imagination, and exploring truths about the world. In our classrooms and on our stages, we celebrate both individual identity and diversity in all forms, and champion artistry as a powerful vehicle for change. Our rigorous and comprehensive programs promote personal choice in a supportive, creative, ever-evolving environment that prepares students for vibrant careers.

Notable Alumni Include:



  • Andrew Durand (BFA '08) was nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his role in Dead Outlaw in 2025.




  • Jennifer Simard (BFA '92) was nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her work as Helen Sharp in Death Becomes Her in 2025. She was nominated in the same category for her work in Company in 2022 and Disaster! in 2016.




  • Laura Dreyfuss (BFA '10, musical theater) originated the role of Zoe Murphy in Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen; starred in Netflix series The Politician.




  • Bradley Gibson (BFA '13, musical theater) starred in Broadway’s The Lion King as Simba and Broadway’s A Bronx Tale, and also performed the title role in Paper Mill Playhouse’s production of Hercules.   




  • Eleri Ward (BFA '17, musical theater) is known for her folk renditions of Sondheim songs and her tour with Josh Groban in 2022.




  • Alysha Umphress (BFA '04) is a Broadway actor most recently seen in the cast of Mr. Saturday Night, which received a 2022 Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album.




  • Alexis Scheer (BFA '14, musical theater) founded Off the Grid Theatre Company and wrote Our Dear Dead Drug Lord, a new play praised by the New York Times.
