The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts continues its popular Broadway Songbook series Sept. 23-30 with REBELS! on Broadway. Tickets are $37 and can be purchased online at www.ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in person at the Ordway ticket office.

Now in its 6th year, the Broadway Songbook series offers an intimate, personal look at the stories behind the songs that created Broadway, exploring the history, meaning and social impact of musical theater on popular American culture. Broadway Songbook is a concert filled with anecdotes and insight into the writers and performers who created some of the most iconic shows of all time. Broadway Songbook: REBELS! on Broadway explores and celebrates the people and shows that have pushed the boundaries of musical theater, held a mirror up to society, challenged the status quo and questioned tradition. REBELS! on Broadway will feature selections from boundary-breaking works like Hamilton, Fun Home, The Book of Mormon, American Idiot and more.

"Musical theatre has always been concerned with issues important to our personal and collective lives, tackling a wide range of topics from corruption and ignorance, to injustice and tolerance," said James A. Rocco, Ordway's vice president of programming and producing artistic director. "Whether dealing directly with racism in shows like Hamilton and Shuffle Along, religion in The Book of Mormon, anti-Semitism in Cabaret, political corruption in Fiorello, or sexuality in RENT, Broadway has always been, and always will be, a subversive art form. Entertaining you while subtly, or sometimes blatantly, addressing the issues at hand."

Broadway Songbook: REBELS! on Broadway is written by Jeffrey P. Scott and James A. Rocco, with arrangements and musical direction by Raymond Berg. Rocco, a Broadway veteran, also acts as the show's host. The cast features Paris Bennett, Julius Collins, Reid Harmsen, Caroline Innerbichler, Wesley Mouri, Hope Nordquist and Rudolph Searles III.
