Red Hot Patriot at Farley's Music Hall

Red Hot Patriot a theatrical look at the life of Molly Ivins can’t answer what she would say today, but her words resonate even more strongly today than when she wrote them more than 35+ years ago! Molly, a native Texan, was the ink-stained, unapologetically left-leaning columnist — who was syndicated in every major U.S. newspaper. She was constantly telling us to “stop letting big money buy our elections”. Her deeply held opinions about campaign reform, to name but one, were then and are now, following the 2024 election, more topical, more meaningful than ever, just remember who’s in the White House! If the nature of her "left leaning" politics scares you, come to meet an extraordinary woman, a human rights activist who left her money to the ACLU when she died. A true freedom fighter who has something to teach us all about equal rights and truth to power.

In 2026 the word "Patriot" has taken on a new, perhaps darker meaning... So let's ask Merriam-Webster for a definition : 'Being a patriot means having a deep love, care, and support for your country. It involves backing your nation's core values, helping your fellow citizens, and wanting the country to do well without needing to tear down others' Beyond that it also means... Doing your part as a member of society, like voting, paying taxes, obeying laws, or helping in your local community and fair treatment of everyone in the nation. Molly knew this, let's get back to this meaning of Patriot!
