“New Year’s Eve Concert 2014” of National Theater of Korea
The New Year’s Eve Concert of the National Theater of Korea will be newly decorated in various aspects. On the stage installed in the “?” shape on the three sides of the theater seats, the audience can enjoy in harmony with the musicians and feel the impression of the concert vividly. Through the band composition in a unit style, not the composition of existing Koran music for orchestra, they are preparing unique and brilliant performance. A 20-member band was formed through mutual understanding of the National Orchestra of Korea (NOK) Unit, organized with Won Il as a central figure, and a band, Nam Gung-yeon K-Beat Ensemble, formed with Nam Gung-yeon and Korean classical music percussionist Min Young-chi as central figures. The combined band will present the exquisite harmony of Korean classical music and popular music. ‘NOK UNIT’ composed of soloists representing each part of National Orchestra of Korea, centered on artistic director, Won Il, is the team showing unlimited musical extendibility of Korean classical music in combination with various genres of music. In the performance of “The Aesthetics of Noise” at the 2014 Yeowoorak Festival of National Theater of Korea, the ‘NOK UNIT’ has already proved its true value through collaboration with Seo Young-do Electric Ensemble. The ‘Nam Gung-yeon K-Beat Ensemble’ organized by a drummer Nam Gung-yeon and Korean classical music percussionist Min Young-chi is the team showing multimedia fusion performance using Korean dance, ballet, jazz and high-tech equipment each year. Actually, the ensemble band has been making the performance materials of Korean beat, which can be performed with all music genres. For the New Year’s Eve’s performance, Korea’s top level musicians including Cho Bum-jin, a guitarist of a rock group, ‘Love and Peace’, and a jazz pianist Yoon Ji-hee, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, joined the K-Beat Ensemble, and are scheduled to take charge of strong sound of the performance. Also, a special stage together with a locking dancer (a dance style) Baek Seung-hwa, participating in the performance as a special member, will be demonstrated. Nam Gung-yeon will show his true value as a multi artist, because he will play an MC role in the concert, not to mention a player.
R&B daddy Kim Jo-han, who marked an epoch in the Korean popular music history, is called Korea’s top class vocalist. Kim Jo-han, who made a debut as a member of ‘Solid’ in 1994, is a singer, composer, producer, professor of Practical Music Dept. and vocal trainer of capable junior singers. He had captivated music fans’ eyes and ears through just one performance in the stage of “I am a Singer.” Kim Jo-han is rated as the only singer equipped with power and delicacy, as well as musicality, ranging from R&B, pop ballad and dance. In this concert, the special stage made by ‘NOK UNIT’ and ‘K-BEAT Ensemble’ together from a masterpiece of a pop singer Westlife’s “You Raise Me Up” to “Holding the End of This Night,” a hit song of ‘Solid’, will be more than enough to meet audience’s expectation.
Jun Jae-duk, who moves audience’s heart through a tiny harmonica, is a player representing Kore’s jazz harmonica. He simultaneously has lyrical sensibility and splendid technique, and shows excellent talent in improvised performance of jazz. Jun Jae-duk, who gained the nickname of Korea’s ‘Toots Thielemans’ (Belgium’s world famous harmonica player), has a peculiar history of performing with Kim Duk-soo Samulnori Band as a brilliant Janggo (hourglass-shaped Korean drum) player as well. The audience can meet another aspect of his in the New Year’s Eve Concert 2014 of National Theater of Korea.

Once a Year Opportunity, Countdown to Embrace New Year’s Day and Magnificent Fireworks
A special event will be presented, once the concert is finished. The beginning of 2015, saying goodbye to 2014, will be decorated with large scale fireworks for 15 minutes to be remembered as a beautiful memory enjoyed together with precious people. NTOK is also a renowned place to greet the New Year through the impression of the performances and special memory of starting the New Year at the foot of Mt. Nam.
