After a 6-month hiatus, Mary Poppins will return to the Town Theatre stage October 23 through November 14.
Things are not going well for the Banks family. Children Michael and Jane are out of control and have run off yet another nanny. In the most peculiar way, a mysterious, but practically perfect, woman appears at the doorstep - none other than Mary Poppins herself! Though she has a seemingly daunting task, with a little magic and some help from Bert, an adorable chimney sweep, the Banks' children have their world turned upside down.
'Once Upon a Time...' is how the tale begins. Yet, we soon find that fairy tales can sometimes take an unexpected twist as we meet an ambivalent Cinderella, a loud and brassy Little Red Riding Hood, a Prince Charming with a roving eye and a Witch who raps. These characters, and more, will step out of their storybook presenting their wishes for lives that end happily ever after.
It's the turn of the century when we meet the bold and beautiful widow Dolly Levi who has found herself in the role of matchmaker. Working to pair her latest client, the miserly half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, with the young Irene Molloy, proves interesting as Dolly finds herself eager to connect with Horace (and Horace's money).
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit and intelligence who dreams of a better life. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly lovable Miss Honey. Despite a mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and older school kids who like to torment the younger students, Matilda uses her courage and cleverness to save not only herself but soon becomes her fellow students' saving grace!
