This musical story-telling show is expressly designed for the very young, pre-school child, aged 2 to 5. It features Pedro Espi-Sanchis, well-known story-teller, composer and musician, supported by another performer still to be named.
The show features four stories from The Little Library, a collection of specially commisioned story-books by South African writers and artists. The Little Library books have been recognized and awarded for their outstanding educational and artistic value. Pedro was involved in the project from the beginning and composed the songs and music for the cd’s.
As usual with Pedro’s shows, this one relies on lots of participation from the audience who will be dancing, singing along, making sound pictures, and playing instruments. Each story includes a catchy song and many traditional African instruments to accompany them. These soundscapes will be complemented by a vibrant visual art dimension.
The show opens with Mama Mabena, a story about two little girls who get carried away by the fun of colour mixing and seem to have made a mess all over their granny’s beautifully painted wall…..
Yawning is Catching is a sing-along story that starts with a frog hopping up to Baby Busi while she’s sleeping on a blanket under a tree… animals are added one by one until the story goes full circle!
The Crocodile’s Sore Tooth is about what happens when Croc goes to a birthday party and eats too many sweets. All the animals offer advice to the suffering crocodile, but true to real life, it is the smallest creature who can help him out.
Eddie Ndlovu tells of an elephant who comes to the city and just cannot do anything right. He sings a sad song until the day he meets an orchestra in search of a trombone player, and he discovers something he can do very well… The story closes the show with a swinging big-band performance by all.
