Lefra Productions presents Ray Cooney's farce, FUNNY MONEY, in Afrikaans as MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS. Cooney's successful West End comedy is being staged for the first time staged in South Africa in this Afrikaans translation by Peet van Rensburg. Frans Swart is the director.
Henry Perkins, a typical suburban accountant accidentally exchanges his suitcase with that of another man on the train, only to find out that the bag holds a small fortune! What follows is a frenetic romp full of hysterical humour.
Chris van Niekerk - well known for his role as Francois in SEWENDE LAAN, and who is currently on South African TV screens in BINNELANDERS - stars as Henry Perkins. Van Niekerk studied Drama at the University of Pretoria and has appeared in many productions, including DIE VLEIROOS, DIE JOGGER, MAGSPEL and TWAALFDE NAG.
Amalia Uys, known for her popular character, Sanmari in SEWENDE LAAN, returns to the stage in MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS as Betty Johnson. Amalia, after six years on SEWENDE LAAN, decided to bid the soap farewell to focus on theater work. Amalia studied drama at the University of Pretoria, after which she was cast in a role on the television comedy, GABRIEL. She wanted to complete after her Honours in Drama Therapy, but was cast in SEWENDE LAAN before before she could.
The rest of the company includes Lulu Botha, Jean Perkins, Paul Lückhoff, Duncan Johnson, Chris van Rensburg, Vic Johnson, Botha Enslin and Phillru Achterbergh.
Swart says he is very excited about the cast of MY VRU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS: "We have gathered together some of the best actors in South Africa to perform in this new farce. All actors with incredible comic sensibilities. I am especially excited to tackle this new farce. It has never been performed in South Africa and that is why we are all very excited to offer South Africa a good laugh this fresh farce."
